Memorial Day Weekend
June 1, 2010
I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday weekend. There aren’t too many things I love more than a long weekend.
Friday night was spent relaxing on the patio. Enjoying the beautiful Spring weather with the one I love, a glass of wine, and a bowl of fresh blackberries and cherries.
We spent a lot of time just talking and dreaming. We’ve been doing that a lot lately. Dreaming. I think a lot of people are afraid of having dreams. Or at least, afraid of sharing their dreams with others. They fear they will look bad if their dreams don’t come true or their dreams change. That is not true. Sometimes life changes and your dreams shift or change, but that’s OK.
Having dreams are very important to me. My dreams are a part of me. Right now, our dreams are no longer just dreams, they are becoming goals. I cannot wait to share more with you soon.
Earlier that night, we stopped by a garage sale on our way home from dinner. I love Friday night garage sales.
We found these hanging glass bottles you put tea lights in. They are a mix of two of my favorite things. Old glass bottles and candles. And being only $.50, they had to come home with me. They were a perfect addition to our patio night.
The next morning, my mom and I got up early to check out some more garage sales. Have I told you how much I love garage sales? Ever since I was a little girl I have been fascinated with thrift stores, garage sales, and antique stores. I could spend an entire day in one of these places. I was the kid who got excited on big trash pick up day and would spend hours looking through boxes of things my neighbors were throwing away. I was “treasure hunting.” My house was always filled with cool antiques and vintage things. Because of that, I have a huge appreciation for all things old, deeply rooted with stories and memories.
I found a couple old glass milk bottles and an old blue Ball jar with a lid. All for one dollar.
I’m a sucker for old glass bottles, of any kind, and any kind of container. Jars, boxes, baskets, trunks…
The woman having the garage sale told me to come back the next day and she would have all kinds of different wooden boxes and crates set out. By the time I got there, most of them were gone, but I did bring home an old wooden Pepsi tray. Again, for one dollar.
Later that day, Brandon and I spent the day with his family. We get together with them at least twice a month to just spend time together, talk, play games, and eat lots and lots of food.
Brandon’s sister and brother-in-law had triplets about 10 months ago. There were many scary and difficult moments- the babies were born three months early, but they are the most precious and beautiful babies I have even come in contact with. They are such a blessing and reminder of God’s grace.

We spend most of our time gathered around these little ones. Making sure everyone gets their time with each of them. I could hold them and play with them forever.
We did get in an intense game of quarter bingo and Family Feud though.
Monday we went to Gypsy Caravan. It is this huge market fair with over 300 booths of antiques, furniture, clothing, food… pretty much anything you can imagine. People came from all over the country to sell their things. I would love to hear all their stories. I live for things like this in the summertime; the hot sun beaming down on you, eating bad fair food, interesting people, and booths and booths of treasures. I could have taken everything home with me. Brandon convinced me we could find most of those things at garage sales where they would cost much less. Remember that Pepsi crate I showed you earlier? Someone was selling one for $25.
This was a potato. Someone stuck a drill through it and it turned in to a ribbon. And then they fried it. Bad fair food.
That about wraps up my weekend.
Can’t wait for more fairs and festivals. Anyone one know of any good ones?
Have a good week, friends.
